Communication was lost with the pilot over Lucyvale yesterday afternoon.
There are grave fears for a missing pilot who disappeared while flying near the Victoria-New South Wales border on Sunday.
It’s understood the recreational aircraft took-off about midday and was travelling to New South Wales. The aircraft was flying over the Lucyvale area, between Mt Beauty and Corryong when communication was lost at 12.41pm.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority is overseeing the search for the missing aircraft.
“AMSA’s Melbourne based rescue jet and 2 rescue helicopters have been tasked to conduct an aerial search in an area near the Tallangatta Valley,” an ASMA spokesperson said.
“The weather conditions in the area have been very poor and visibility is limited.”
Victoria Police is also assisting with the operation by conducting ground searches in the area.
Search operations were halted overnight and will resume today.
