Young hoop wins first cup race

A young jockey who has only been riding competitively since August last year has claimed her first major victory with a confident steer in Saturday's 151st edition of the Towong Cup.

Hanna Le Blanc partnered with $3.60 favourite, Mischinka, to win the Costello-Rural/Life Plan Strategic Solutions Towong Cup by a length from Written Advice and 2021 victor, Sizzelonthebridge. Le Blanc is on loan as an apprentice to rising Wangaratta trainer, Ben Brisbourne, who saddled up Mischinka and he praised Le Blanc for her polished performance

The seven-year-old mare has been in work since November and is in top form, having recorded three wins and four placings in her seven races this preparation and Le Blanc relied on her consistency and a seven kilogram weight drop from her last start to get Mischinka over the line, despite racing three wide in the leading division for the majority of the 1600m feature.

Le Blanc, who was inducted into Racing Victoria's Apprentice Jockey Training Program in early 2020, was sidelined for a lengthy stint last spring following a serious fall at the Mornington jumpouts.

She made her race-day debut on Dash To The Bar at Berrigan in late August, with her first win coming on Dash To The Bar at Echuca on October 1st, 2021 at her 20th ride.

Brisbourne (31), the son of a horse trainer, originally hails from Shropshire in the United Kingdom and moved to Australia in 2013 to pursue his racing dream. After working for several stables, he took out his licence in 2018 and has been steadily making his mark in the training ranks since, highlighted by his first city victory with 40-1 bolter, Fontein Diamond, in the Country Mile Series Final on All-Star Mile Day at Moonee Valley in March 2021.
